Joey was born and raised in Tchula, Mississippi and is a 1978 graduate of the University of Mississippi, where he received a Bachelor of Business Administration degree with a major in Accounting. After graduation, he accepted a position with Deposit Guaranty National Bank in Jackson, Mississippi and worked in the bank's management training program for two years. He joined Tann, Brown & Russ Co., PLLC as a staff accountant in 1980 and became a partner in 1990.
As an audit partner with the Firm, Joey's clients have included, among others, construction contractors, multi-family housing projects, retirement communities, nonprofit organizations, and various government agencies and entities at both the state and local levels. Additionally, he manages the Firm's GAAP Packet practice under which accounting assistance and financial reporting is regularly provided to various state agencies throughout the State of Mississippi.
Joey currently serves as partner in charge of the Firm's litigation and forensic accounting services practice. He has handled over 250 litigation support and insurance claims consulting engagements in such areas as business interruption, loss of profits, financial motive in civil arson, personal injury and wrongful death, family law, and employee fraud, and he has testified as an expert witness in Chancery and Circuit Courts in Mississippi, as well as in U.S. District Courts for both the Northern and Southern Districts of Mississippi. Joey has delivered seminar presentations on business interruption insurance claims and the forensic accountant's role in fire investigations to organizations both in and outside of Mississippi, and he has also published articles in the Mississippi "CPA Newsletter".
Joey is active in community organizations, having served for a number of years as a volunteer Boy Scout leader and a tournament team fast pitch softball coach. As an active church member, he has served as both treasurer and finance committee chairman. He is also a past president and treasurer of the Madison the City Chamber of Commerce and recently completed his third term as a member of the Chamber's board of directors.
